This assignment was part of a school project I completed during my Business of Sports and Entertainment minor back in 2018. Together with my project group, I had an amazing opportunity to work with a real client —Buma Cultuur, an organisation behind many leading cultural initiatives in the Netherlands. I took on the challenge of leading the creation of the very first edition of a live magazine for the Buma Music in Motion Conference.
From selecting the right tools to support the project and recruiting journalists to collaborate with us, to planning the team's workflow for the day and finally bringing the live magazine to life — I loved every step of this project.
Logo
The name and logo of the magazine needed to resonate and align with the Buma Music in Motion conference. That’s why we chose the name BMIM Magazine in Motion, with BMIM as a clear abbreviation of the event’s name.
The conference branding at the time featured bold black-and-white rectangles and bright colours, which heavily influenced the logo’s design. My goal was for the logo not to clash with other event visuals but to blend seamlessly into the overall brand aesthetic.
Live magazine
The conference programme was packed, with several panels running simultaneously in different rounds throughout the day. The organisers wanted attendees to get the most out of it, so the main purpose of the magazine was to capture the key points of all the discussions and present them in an easily digestible format right after each panel round. This was made possible thanks to Adobe Spark (now discontinued), which also allowed us to create the magazine on a low budget.
The issue received over 1,600 visits, which is a great result considering the conference was attended by around 300 people. Many of them must have checked the magazine multiple times, which I’m really pleased about!
Project timeline infographic
At the end of the project, I created a timeline in the form of an infographic, incorporating the conference’s branding elements.
This way up!
